Neutral walls and upholstery combined with tailored splashes of color warm up this den in Huguenot Farms. The leather sectional provides comfortable seating for the whole family, while giving the room a more sophisticated look. Additionally, the abstract painting by local artist Laura Loe takes full advantage of the high ceilings and adds color and interest to the space.

A DMD Approach to Window Treatments...
The addition of color and pattern with these feathered pillows take a kitchen window seat from everyday to extraordinary.
A little nook is the perfect opportunity to use bright colors and bold patterns to make a statement without being too over the top.

Here, we were able to define the space and add some extra seating by dressing up a window seat with sophisticated fabrics that are cohesive with the rest of the living area.
A window seat isn't all about looks... here, form follows function, as the bench and brightly patterned pillows conceal extra storage in the family's laundry area.

The Economics of Good Design
If you are anything like us at DMD, you are tired of talking about the sad state of the economy. However, we do feel that we would be remiss if we neglected to address the concerns of homeowners and would-be redecorators. Of course, we understand the desire to save, save save, but why not save on gas, save on dining out, and save on movie tickets by enjoying the company of friends and family in your home? Create a new space, warm up an old one, or just invest in some key pieces and you can enjoy countless evenings at home for less than the cost of filling up your tank. After all, home is the one place we can turn to as an escape from the rest of the world, and that is nothing to skimp on.
This DMD designed former kids' playroom is now the perfect spot for the entire family to enjoy a relaxing, budget-conscious evening in.
We love these Woven Hurricanes from West Elm as a cost-effective addition to your outdoor entertaining collection.
Why spend on gas and cocktails when a glass of wine and a cozy spot like this screened-in porch (decorated by DMD) await you at home?Friday, July 11, 2008
Tozai Treasures at DMD
Great new lanterns from Tozai add a pop of color to any outdoor space, and when the season is over, just move them indoors to warm up your living room mantle with summer memories!
Our Tozai shell lamps (see detail of lamp above), add a bit of whimsy without overpowering your space. Their subtle glow creates a gentle luminosity wherever you chose to place them.

Trisha Adams, artist
This is a painting titled Flowers and Scarf by Trisha Adams, an artist from Leesburg, Virginia. We love her work and have included her art in many of our projects. Her use of color is extraodinary and we found this piece to be most evocative. Check out this and more of her work at Chasen Gallery in Carytown.
